Created as the central work for my 2020 solo exhibition Hubba Bubba at QT Contemporary, this two-part installation marked a significant shift in my painting practice, introducing a new direction in my exploration of form, space, and materiality.
The work comprises a large-scale acrylic painting measuring 7.5 × 2.5 metres, alongside a sculptural wall installation created from sections cut directly from the original canvas. These removed forms have been transformed into sixteen individual three-dimensional elements, establishing a dialogue between absence and presence, painting and object.
Together, the two components investigate processes of transformation, fragmentation, and reconstruction, extending the painted surface beyond the physical boundaries of the canvas and into architectural space. The negative spaces within the painting are echoed by the sculptural forms, inviting viewers to consider the relationship between what is removed and what remains.
